These estimates are daily composites of all available passive microwave precipitation estimates from the SSM/I instrument. Currently, SSM/I aboard the F-13 polar orbiter is used in this product. The original orbital estimates are generated by NESDIS using the following published algorithm: "GPROF V2004" which is maintained by Prof. Chris Kummerow at Colorado State University.
